You're a Grand Old Flag

As I announced in my POV feature post, our theme for this month is Patriotic.  I thought it might be fun to have a different project every week to show you and hopefully get you motivated to join in on the Point of View linky party!

The first project I did is this fun pallet wood flag.

It is so easy and the best part is that it is SO inexpensive!

Let's get started.  To make this, you will need:

*A pallet.  (I got mine at a local hardware store for FREE!  Just call ahead to any store and see if they have some available.)
*red, white and blue paint
*star stencil
*sandpaper
*dark brown stain

First, I removed the boards that I wanted to use from my pallet.  Then I hammered the boards into a rectangle shape.  Easy Peasy.

Next, I simply painted the flag.  Using some painters tape I made a rectangle for the blue and the stars, and I created stripes starting with the white, and then painted the red.  After the paint is dry, I used some vinyl as a stencil for my stars and simply added them in.  Don't look too closely though.  I might have done a couple of extra stars.  What?  There's 52 states, right?  Oops.  I guess I didn't really count as I was painting.

After the painting is all finished, I used sandpaper to go over the paint to make it look worn.  Then the stain came next.  I just added it in the places that the natural wood was showing through and especially on the edges.  I really think it makes it look nice and worn.

All you have left to do is set it out on your porch and admire it.

I really love the way it looks!  Here's a question for you.  My husband thinks I should make these and sell them.  If I were to sell them, how much should I charge, and is this something you would even consider buying?  (I would make sure there were only 50 stars in the ones that I sell :)

I love it Jonie! It turned out so cute. I love decorating this time of year. You could totally sell these. I'd even buy one with 52 states. Bonus!

It's beautiful, Jonie! I have a similar piece made out of fence pickets. I bought it like 10 or so years ago for about $25, but I thought that was a steal at the time.
