Wedding Gift Idea

This is one of my favorite things to give as a wedding present.  (I accidentally just wrote weeding present. Good thing I caught that one.)

It is easy to put together, useful for the newly weds, and it can be as personalized as you would like it to be.  Here's the break down of everything in the gift.

You start with mixing bowls.  You can do just one, or you can give a full set.  In the photo, I have two bowls which made it easier to put things up where they could be seen.  Next, I have a cake mix, and last I have a recipe card holder with a stack of recipe cards that I printed out.  I actually got the recipe card holder from my mom who found it at the thrift store.  I sanded it, painted it and added vinyl.  Keep your eyes open for these because you can basically find them anywhere. The magnet was just one that I had on hand, and it worked perfectly to hold the cards in place.  If you would like to use the recipe cards that I made either for yourself or for a gift, you can find the link to the printable below.  Make sure to print onto card stock for better durability.

You can make this gift even more personalized by including your favorite recipe on one of the cards and then instead of a cake mix, including all of the non-perishable items that you would need to make the recipe on your card.

Other ideas would be to include baking items such as a bag of sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, or pretty much anything along those lines.  They are things that people don't really think about until they need to use them for the first time.  And, in my experience, the baking items tend to add up really quickly, so it is nice to have a base supply on hand.

Family Home Evening Charts

About a month ago, I was asked to create some Family Home Evening charts for a Relief Society activity that took place this last week.  I decided to make a few to show people the different ways that you can easily and inexpensively create them.

I started with the classic magnet board example.  Using my silhouette, I cut out the vinyl and attached it to the metal board that I got from Roberts (before they closed the store.)  You can also pick them up at Hobby Lobby.  I used some strip magnets and attached some coordinating scrapbook paper to them.  I will put our names on them to designate who will be doing which part of our family night.

For my second example, I wanted it to be something that anyone could use and be super functional.  I found this example originally, but didn't want to do another magnet board.  So I decided to make it really easy by just creating a printable, printing it off, and putting it into a picture frame.  It now works perfectly as a dry erase board.  If you would like the printable for this, you can find the link below.  I left the top square empty so that you can insert your own initial into it.  If you happen to have a last name that starts with an S, the link for that is also below.

My last board is another one that I created a printable for and then added a little bit to it.  If you would like to make your own, all it takes is the printable I created (which you can find the link below) and some clothespins, frame, and chipboard.  It is really easy.  Here's a little mini tutorial on how it was created:

Paint clothespins desired color.  I really like to use soy bean paint.  It is very vibrant and really does a great job!  I picked mine up at Hobby Lobby, and if you go this week all of the acrylic paint is on sale.

After my clothespins were painted, I used a gluestick to attach the lables.  Then using some chipboard, I cut out some rectangles to use as tags to mark who is doing what job.  I thought it was cute to simply use a monogram instead of writing the whole name, but you can really do either way.  I strung it with some bakers twine (purely for the cuteness factor) and then put it into the frame.

And there you have it.  Three boards that are all totally easy to create and are both functional and stinkin cute.

Also, just because I like you, here are some links to two other fun ideas that I was going to create but ran out of time.

Teacher Appreciation Gift Idea

For my Point of View project this month, I wasn't really sure what to do at first since none of my family is in school currently.  I decided that I would create a fun printable that could be used for a teacher or even a coach that made a difference in helping you to acheive your goals.

I went with some fun washi tape for my gift.  What teacher wouldn't love some cute Washi tape?  I know I would love it.  You basically could use anything that is sticky in nature.  Glue, scotch tape, post it notes, stickers, candy etc.  It really is so customizable to you.  I just wrapped the washi tape in some cellophane and then tied it up with some fun ribbon.  Doesn't get much easier than that! You can buy some cute washi tape of your own at Cute Tape.  I love their selection and their prices.
