Thought of the Week {5}

My thoughts lately have been centering around motherhood.  Some days I feel like I am failing as a mom.  I am sure others have felt the same way, and I thought maybe we could work together and help each other.

My two year old has reached an age that is incredibly hard for me.  She will be 3 in August and has developed a temper, entitlement, and naughtyness that can only be described as impossible.  She can be the happiest sweetest little girl in the world, but in an instant it can all change.  I am trying to help her "keep her happy face on", but I just don't know how to keep my patience in check when she is just being so naughty.  She doesn't listen, she tells me "no" a million times a day, and she would rather sit in time out than do what I tell her to do.  She is sounding like a teenager.

Since I know that so many of you have gone through this as well, I thought I would ask for any tips or advice you might have to help me not only remain calm (even through the naughtyness) and also tips for how to help my daughter.  She needs to learn that she can't pull a fit in the store, she can't have what she wants all the time, and she needs to be obedient.  Is that too much to ask?

Help.

Thought of the Week {4}

Lately I haven't been doing much thinking.  I know, right?  I feel like the last couple of weeks are just a blur and I don't really know how I made it out the other side.  But, I am here and I thought it might be fun to share a couple of funny things with you because who doesn't like to laugh.

This one made me seriously laugh because it is so true!  Shopping with my husband is like a form of torture for both parties involved.  Also, my husband is a hunter, so this really is a perfect saying for us since we both can relate to it.

 I don't know about you, but I got a good laugh out of these.  I do know that my family is always making fun of me for the things that I find funny.  They just don't have the same sense of humor I guess.  Hopefully you fully appreciate my humor though.  Right?  Anyone?

Also, if you happen upon something that you find humorous, would you pass it along?  I am always in search of a good belly laugh.  Thanks!

Thought of the Week {3}

I've been thinking a lot about my weight lately.  When I got married, I weighed 20 lbs less than I do now.  I hate that.  Of course I have gone through 2 pregnancies and it has been 5 1/2 years since I got married, but still.

My husband and I have challenged ourselves to lose the weight.  We want to get to where we used to be which is totally do-able, but a ton of work.  I am finding that the hardest part is starting.  I don't have a specific plan of what I should do to lose the weight which is probably why my attempts have been half hearted.  This is where I am coming to you.  I am putting myself out there by even telling you this because frankly it is embarrasing.  I just know that if I tell all of you this that I will be more accountable, and that maybe there will be someone that can help.  I would love any advice or tips that you have.  One thing to keep in mind is that I can't limit my calories too far because I am still nursing my baby.

If you are in the same boat, email me.  We will do this together.  Seriously.  I am ready for a change, how about you?

Thought of the Week {2}

How did your week go?  Did you have a joyful moment?  Did you help lift someone's spirits?  I would love to hear about it!

Source: Tumblr via Pinterest

I have always been a cautious person.  You can ask my mom.  She would tell you that when I was younger, my sister Charli would be going down the slide like a crazy person, but I would take my time and be very careful.  This has resonated with a lot of things throughout my life.  This blog would be a perfect example of that.  I have been very careful about the projects I show you and how I present them.  When I started blogging, I had no idea that anyone would read this and even if they did come across it, that they would keep coming back.  It was supposed to be a way to show my family what I am up to.  It has definitely become something else, and while it is exciting, it is scary to me at the same time.  What if you don't like my projects?  What if I don't post for a whole week?  What if I get negative feedback?  Then there is a whole other side of it.  Projects are one thing, but what if I post something personal about myself and it has negative effects?  What if people are here just for the projects?  What if I share who I am and people don't like me?  It is a seriously insecure thing for me.  I think that is why I have never really been personal here before.

This is the reason I have started doing Thought of the Week.  I wanted to take a risk.  I want to get to know you as readers, and I thought maybe you would want to get to know things about me.  That way you can see who I am outside of my projects.  I want this to be an uplifting place and a place that you can come to be inspired, but I want the inspiration to be more than just inspiration for your next project.

I would love for you to be involved in this with me.  Participate through comments and let's uplift and inspire each other.  If there is a thought or a story that you think I would like, please share it with me.  You can leave it in the comments section, or you can email it to me at joniemarie85@gmail.com.

Now the question is, what things have you been afraid of trying because you didn't think you would be able to do it or that it wouldn't turn out the way you thought?  What is holding you back?  Will you put your fears aside this week and try it anyway?  I would love to hear about it!

Thought of the Week

Sometimes I find myself getting stuck on thinking of what my next project should be.  I have plenty of ideas, but trying to decide which one I should focus on is something that I have been struggling with lately.  I had an idea that I should do a "Thought of the Week" and I have decided that I needed to focus on this project because it is important, and hopefully you will find it worthwhile as well.

{Made by me.  Feel free to use, but please credit properly.}

I have been seeing a trend lately of women who compare themselves to others.  When I was in high school, I would look at other girls and think, "If only my body were that skinny." or "Ugh, my hair NEVER looks as good as hers does."  Of course, looking back now, I would give my left arm to be as skinny as I was then.  (Actually I would need to give my left and right arm, and possibly my leg to be able to weigh the same.)

Now, as a mother, it is easy to get caught up in blogs and pinterest and thinking that people live charmed, easy lives.  I have had quite a few people ask, "How do you have time to do all your projects?"  The answer: My house suffers.  I am far from perfect, and I think it is safe to say that you could say the same for any blogger.  We are excellent at cropping and showing you exactly what we want you to see.  The reality is this.  I like having a tidy house, but I hate doing the deep cleaning.  I like to have clean clothes, but I hate doing laundry.  Ironing?  Forget it.  Granted they all eventually get done (well, except for ironing), but they are by no means a priority in my life.

Why do we do this to ourselves?  It's a simple question, but it definitely doesn't have one easy answer.  It is different for each person.  The fact is that we all compare to some degree, but what I wanted to say in all of this is that even though we compare ourselves, we shouldn't allow that to steal the joy from our lives.  Instead of seeing something that we wish we were better at, why not look instead to all of the things that we are GREAT at already?  There will always be someone who can do something better than you, but I can guarantee that you have something that you are really great at that they can't do.  We should focus on our strengths and use them to help build people up instead of using them to feel superior to someone else.

Let's make a goal to encourage and build people up this week.  You could do it by a kind email to let someone know that you appreciate their work, a little treat on the doorstep of your neighbor, or even just a phone call to let someone know you were thinking of them.  Chances are that you aren't the only one that could use a little "pick me up" and the best part is that in the process of helping others, we end up feeling better about ourselves.  Try it out, and next week I will ask you about how it went.  I would love to hear about what you did!

Until next week!
