Princess Party

A couple of weeks ago, I thought it would be fun to host a Princess Party for Lillie and a few of her friends.  They all came dressed in their Princess best ready for some fun and pampering.

My hairdresser, Marcy,  does mobile parties where she comes to your house and does the hair, nails, and make up for any occasion.  This was perfect for our Princess Party and the girls were THRILLED that they were able to be primped and pampered like a real Princess.

The prep for this party was simple.  All I did was make some chocolate cupcakes with a chocolate mousse topping (that were in pink polka dot cupcake holders of course) and I gave out stick on earrings. Oh, and I made sure to have milk on hand to go with the cupcakes and striped straws to make it a little more fun.  The girls loved it.  They talked and played while they waited for their turn either getting their hair or their nails done.  It was so cute to watch them!

They each were able to choose their favorite color of nail polish to get their fingernails and toenails painted with.  It was fun to see if they would choose a color or a glitter polish.  Marcy provided all the polish and had glitter hairspray for their hair and even had glittery bobby pins for each girl.

If you are thinking of doing a Princess Party for your own girls, you should definitely give my hair dresser Marcy a call.  She was great with the girls and made them look like real princesses for sure!  She does other kinds of mobile parties as well.  I was thinking that if I had a teenager daughter this would be a fun party idea as well.  Wouldn't it be fun to have a pampering night where everyone gets their nails and make up done or something like that?  I have to tell you that Marcy also did my hair and make up for my wedding and she did my sister's for her wedding.  It was so nice that I just had to wake up the morning of my wedding and she came to my house to get it all done, and I LOVED the way it turned out.  She is very good at what she does and is very reasonably priced.

Favorite Things Party Recap

 I learned a very valuable lesson last week.  When your husband is out of town hunting, it is the perfect time to throw a fun party with some of your girlfriends.  I was a little nervous about having the party, but I thought the idea sounded so fun that I just had to do it.  I invited some of my neighbors and blogging friends over and we had a blast!

Here's how the party goes.  Everyone that comes brings 5 of their favorite thing.  You can choose to do five different things, but we went with five of the same thing.  Once everyone is there, you all get five slips of paper that you will write your name on and then you place the paper by the five things you want the most.  We then went through, and all the items that had five or less papers next to it were given to all the people that wanted them.  If there were more than five people that wanted an item, we drew five names out and then the other people went and chose a different prize.  It seemed to work out well for us.

There were so many great things brought to the party that it was hard to choose!  Do you want to see what I mean?  Here's what everyone brought:

Another fun thing that I was able to do for my guests is get a little gift for them all to take home.  Downtown Tape sent me some AMAZING washi tape to give to everyone.  In case you don't know, washi tape is one of my all time favorite things, so I figured it was the perfect thing to send everyone home with!  If you have been thinking about getting some washi tape for yourself, Downtown Tape is THE company to go with.  Not only do they have a great selection, they also sell their tape for the lowest price I've seen.  It's only $1.99 a roll, and they have a flat rate shipping of $2.95 for 1 roll or 100 rolls!  Have I convinced you yet?  It really is one of those things that I think everyone will love once they try it just once.

Oh, and don't mind the line through the "take one".  My daughter Lillie ran her finger through it pretending to read.  She said, "This says 'Lillie Sumsion'" as she ran her finger along it.  Uh...close sis.  :)

We of course had to have delicious things to eat.  I figured there were three types of women coming to my party.  Dr. Pepper, diet coke, and water drinkers.  Turns out I was totally right!  (And if we are keeping score, more women drank dr. pepper than diet coke)  What would be your drink of choice?  I am really curious.

In the end, I think everyone should host a party like this, or at least go to one!  It was such a fun night and I love all of the things that I got.  I am already thinking ahead for the next party!

Birthday Surprises and Banners

My oldest daughter turned 3 last Thursday. I can't be old enough to have a 3 year old, and yet, here I am.  She is one of the smartest, funniest, sweetest, most beautiful little girls I know. 

For her birthday, I thought it would be fun to surprise her when she woke up in the morning.  My husband and I (but mostly me) blew up about 100 balloons and filled her room with them. 

When she woke up and saw the balloons everywhere we didn't get the initial response we were looking for. She said, "Why is this a mess?" Once we told her that it was ok that her room was a mess with balloons and started playing with them, she decided that it was pretty awesome and had fun with them all day. Check out this awesome bed head.

I got the balloons at Walmart for $4 a bag of 75.  A pretty inexpensive way to make a birthday extra special.  Also, I used an air pump to blow them up.  I am pretty sure I would have died if I had blown them all up by mouth. 

Another thing that I wanted to show is actually something that I made two years ago for her 1st birthday party.  I wanted to create a birthday banner that I could reuse every year that would never go out of style.  I love the way that it turned out.  I used doodle bug paper and am so glad that I did since it is so timeless.  This is what it looked like the first year that I made it.

And now what it looked like this year.  It still looks brand new and will be the perfect birthday sign for every girl birthday at our house.  If I ever have a boy, I will make a boy version as well.  Until then, this works perfectly for us.

Overall, I like to use inexpensive and simple ways to make a birthday special, and these were perfect for that.
